My goal is to help you move on with your life as quickly as possible with the least amount of ramifications

How do I achieve that? Through understanding the situation from your point of view. Through learning your story. Through looking at your history. And through deciding on the best possible defense strategy, based on my extensive experience helping other people in similar situations.

I have dedicated my whole career to helping people like you

Admittedly, my first “brush” with the law happened long before I became a defense attorney. During my freshman year at college, I was falsely accused of arson. I was interrogated for 4 hours which included multiple attempts to “make me confess” or face jail time.  I was not criminally charged, but when I got back to campus I was charged (along with my 4 roommates) with violating the school’s code of conduct and I had to vacate the campus until my hearing which would take place three days later.

Those three days felt like an eternity. What was going to happen to me? Would I be thrown out of school? Would I be thrown off campus? I tried to speak to someone from the school, but no one was really able to give me any answers or guidance.

Luckily it all worked out, but after experiencing the helplessness and terror of being accused of a crime, and then feeling that my college was going to pull my future right out from under me, I also became more curious about the law in general – so interned for a criminal defense attorney while still in college.

I sat in on client meetings, learned their stories and heard their fears about how the case would affect them, their family and possibly their employment. I got to know these clients as people, and I came to appreciate that they shouldn’t be defined by a single action for the rest of their lives.

After these experiences, I knew. I knew I wanted to truly help people when they were in trouble and that is what inspired me to go to law school.

I used to be a prosecutor

I always knew I wanted to work as a defense attorney, but after law school I thought it’d be useful to get inside the heads of the “other side” – so I went to work as an assistant district attorney in Nassau County. While there, I was able to see what factors they considered when offering a plea offer, and why they might agree to do something out of the ordinary on a particular case. I also prepared police officers to testify at trial – the same police officers I’d be cross-examining just a few years later. I also learned how much power the prosecutor’s office had and the unjust consequences that could result through exercise of that power. I gained invaluable insights at the DA’s office, which I still put to good use today.

Starting my Practice

In 1998 I left the DA’s office and on February 2nd, 1998 I started “The Law Offices of Scott J. Limmer.” For the last 23 years I have been helping clients who have been arrested or charged with violating their school’s code of conduct. For every client that hires me, I make sure I understand the situation from their point of view. I am there to be their ally when they feel afraid, confused and intimidated by the situation. And that’s why I do this.   – that’s the passion. And that’s why, throughout my career, I’ve worked with integrity and honesty to defend clients in Criminal Court throughout Long Island and College students throughout the country.

I am going to be upfront and honest about everything

I am extremely open and communicative with my clients. I’ll tell you exactly what I’m thinking, exactly what I’m going to do for you, exactly what outcome I think I can achieve, and exactly what happens next.

I’ll work relentlessly to get the best possible result for you. I’ll scour through evidence, attempt to unearth new information, and gather together witnesses. I’ll make you be seen by the court and the Judge as a person – a neighbor, a member of the community – rather than “the defendant.”

You’re no doubt going through hell right now.

You’re thinking about the lifelong repercussions. You’re worried about how your family will take it. You’re terrified about the unknown future that lies ahead. You’re stressed beyond belief and you’re struggling to think clearly.

Here’s what I promise you:

  • I’ll get you the BEST possible outcome.
  • I’ll always be 100% honest with you
  • I’ll guide you through the entire process.
  • You can speak to me at any time about your fears or concerns

I was arrested for a felony Mr. Limmer would not agree to any of the offered plea bargains. He was able to get the case dismissed. I can’t thank him enough for his hard work and professionalism.
