How to Prepare for Your First Meeting with a Queens Criminal Lawyer

‘ tag=’h2′ link_apply=” link=” link_target=” style=’blockquote modern-quote modern-centered’ size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ margin=” padding=’0′ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#004490′ custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=” av-desktop-hide=” av-medium-hide=” av-small-hide=” av-mini-hide=” av-medium-font-size-title=” av-small-font-size-title=” av-mini-font-size-title=” av-medium-font-size=” av-small-font-size=” av-mini-font-size=”]

It is normal to be scared, nervous, and anxious if you are about to meet with a criminal defense attorney. It is important to remember that the better prepared you are for the meeting, the faster the lawyer can begin to help you and the more effective the representation will be.

[av_heading heading=’

What the Lawyer Needs to Know

‘ tag=’h3′ link_apply=” link=” link_target=” style=’blockquote modern-quote modern-centered’ size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ margin=” padding=’0′ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#004490′ custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=” av-desktop-hide=” av-medium-hide=” av-small-hide=” av-mini-hide=” av-medium-font-size-title=” av-small-font-size-title=” av-mini-font-size-title=” av-medium-font-size=” av-small-font-size=” av-mini-font-size=”]

At your first meeting, the lawyer will need to ask you several questions. These may be about your personal life, the events that occurred, and your previous and upcoming court appearances. It may be a good idea to write down all relevant background information in preparation for the meeting.

[av_heading heading=’

What to Bring to the Meeting

‘ tag=’h3′ link_apply=” link=” link_target=” style=’blockquote modern-quote modern-centered’ size=” subheading_active=” subheading_size=’15’ margin=” padding=’0′ color=’custom-color-heading’ custom_font=’#004490′ custom_class=” admin_preview_bg=” av-desktop-hide=” av-medium-hide=” av-small-hide=” av-mini-hide=” av-medium-font-size-title=” av-small-font-size-title=” av-mini-font-size-title=” av-medium-font-size=” av-small-font-size=” av-mini-font-size=”]

During the meeting, the lawyer will want to review all documents that relate to the case. As a good rule of thumb, the more you can bring, the better.
Here are some examples of relevant documents:

  • Any documents from Queens County Court showing your charges or court dates
  • Bail paperwork
  • Police reports
  • If your home was searched, any paperwork left by the police
  • A potential witness list with contact information
